How do I sync my devices?

You can sync your devices together with iCloud Sync! In Smart Tasks go to “Options” -> “iCloud” and enable iCloud Sync. Make sure you do this on ALL devices that you want in sync.

iCloud Troubleshooting Tips

Make sure to have:

  • iCloud enabled in “Options” on all devices you want to have synced.
  • Your devices using the same Apple ID account.
  • Apple sometimes has iCloud system failures, please check their system status for iCloud services.
  • The newest version of Smart Tasks. Check by visiting its App Store page and verify the “Open” button doesn’t say “Update”.
  • Smart Tasks and iCloud Drive is enabled in your device’s settings.
    • iPhone/iPad: Open the Settings app -> tap [Your Name] -> “iCloud” and check if iCloud Drive and Smart Tasks are both enabled.
    • Mac: Open “System Preferences” -> click “Apple ID” and enable “iCloud Drive”. From there click “Options…” and make sure Smart Tasks is enabled.
  • Have available space in your iCloud Storage. Smart Tasks only saves your tasks in your iCloud account and can not sync if there’s no space.
    • iPhone/iPad: Open the Settings app -> tap [Your name] -> “iCloud” and your storage information will be at the top.
    • Mac: Open “System Preferences” -> “Apple ID” and your storage information will be at the bottom.

Calendar Events

Why can’t I see my calendar events after upgrading to iOS 17 or macOS Sonoma?

Short answer:

  1. Make sure you’re on the newest version of Smart Tasks or at least on version 2.12.2 or later.
  2. Inside Smart Tasks, go to Options -> Calendar Events and tap the “Enable in Settings” button to open the Settings app and give Smart Tasks ‘Full Access’ to Calendars.

Answer: With the new updates, Apple automatically sets ‘Add Events Only’ access on all devices that enabled Calendar access on iOS 16 or earlier. Smart Tasks can fetch your events once you allow the app to have ‘Full Access’ to Calendars.

Smart Tasks version 2.12.2 or later accounts for this and allows you to open the Settings app from inside Smart Tasks to update your Calendar access settings.

To enable full access, open Smart Tasks, go to Options -> Calendar Events, and tap the “Enable in Settings” button to open the Settings app and give Smart Tasks ‘Full Access’ to Calendars.

How do I link an external calendar (e.g., Google Calendar or Outlook)?

Smart Tasks can sync with any calendar connected to the Apple Calendar app. Connect your external calendars to the Apple Calendar app before trying to add them to Smart Tasks.

You can change how frequently Apple checks for new events by going to your devices’ Settings app -> “Calendar” -> “Accounts” -> “Fetch New Data”.
