Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most common questions about Smart Tasks.

iCloud

You can sync your devices together with iCloud Sync! In Smart Tasks go to "Options" → "iCloud" and enable iCloud Sync. Make sure you do this on ALL devices that you want in sync.

You can sync your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch!

Make sure to have:

  • iCloud enabled in "Options" on all devices you want to have synced.
  • Your devices using the same Apple ID account.
  • Apple sometimes has iCloud system failures, please check their system status for iCloud services.
  • The newest version of Smart Tasks. Check by visiting its App Store page and verify the "Open" button doesn't say "Update".
  • Smart Tasks and iCloud Drive enabled in your device's settings.
    • iPhone/iPad: Open the Settings app → tap [Your Name] → "iCloud" and check if iCloud Drive and Smart Tasks are both enabled.
    • Mac: Open "System Preferences" → click "Apple ID" and enable "iCloud Drive". From there click "Options…" and make sure Smart Tasks is enabled.
  • Available space in your iCloud Storage. Smart Tasks only saves your tasks in your iCloud account and cannot sync if there's no space.
    • iPhone/iPad: Open the Settings app → tap [Your Name] → "iCloud" and your storage information will be at the top.
    • Mac: Open "System Preferences" → "Apple ID" and your storage information will be at the bottom.

Syncing tasks between different Apple IDs is not supported.

General

Smart Tasks is available on:

  • iPhone (iOS 16 or later)
  • iPad (iPadOS 16 or later)
  • Mac (macOS 13 or later)
  • Apple Watch (watchOS 9 or later)

Currently, Smart Tasks is unavailable on Windows or Android devices. This page will be updated if Smart Tasks supports Windows or Android devices in the future.

Subscription

Nope! Once you get a Smart Tasks+ subscription, you can add it to all your devices connected to your individual Apple account.

If your subscription is not automatically added to your other devices, in Smart Tasks go to "Options" → "Settings" → "Subscription" and tap "Restore Purchase" on devices without the subscription.

The Smart Tasks+ subscription does not support Apple's Family Sharing (sharing subscriptions between different Apple IDs). You can add your subscription to all your devices connected to your Apple ID but not other Apple IDs.

Widgets

Smart Tasks has 3 unique types of widgets to view your tasks! Follow Apple's step-by-step instructions (for iPhone/iPad or Mac) on adding/editing a widget. After step 2, Smart Tasks should be in your list of widgets.

Your widgets are updated automatically by Smart Tasks whenever you add or edit your tasks.

If you see your widgets in a constant loading state (e.g., plain with loading boxes), just add a new task for Today or drag and drop an existing task to the top of Today in Next 7 Days.

Calendar Events

Make sure you're on the newest version of Smart Tasks or at least version 2.12.2 or later. Inside Smart Tasks, go to Options → Calendar Events and tap the "Enable in Settings" button to open the Settings app and give Smart Tasks 'Full Access' to Calendars.

With the new updates, Apple automatically sets 'Add Events Only' access on all devices that enabled Calendar access on iOS 16 or earlier. Smart Tasks can fetch your events once you allow the app to have 'Full Access' to Calendars. To enable full access, open Smart Tasks, go to Options → Calendar Events, and tap the "Enable in Settings" button.

Smart Tasks can sync with any calendar connected to the Apple Calendar app. Connect your external calendars to the Apple Calendar app before trying to add them to Smart Tasks.

Smart Tasks receives events via the Apple Calendar app and will show the events once Apple receives them. You can change how frequently Apple checks for new events by going to your device's Settings app → "Calendar" → "Accounts" → "Fetch New Data".

Birthdays are synced from the Apple Contacts app. To add a new birthday, be sure to add the birthday to a contact in the Apple Contacts app. Make sure the Birthday calendar is selected in Calendar Events Options in Smart Tasks.
