We are the developers of Smart Tasks ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy describes how Smart Tasks handles your data. By using Smart Tasks, you agree to this Privacy Policy. Contact us with questions at support@smarttasksapp.com.
Smart Tasks does not require any form of registration or the creation of a personal user account. You can use Smart Tasks anonymously without providing a name, username, or email address. Any tasks, notes, and categories you create are stored locally on your device and, if you choose to enable iCloud Sync, in your personal iCloud account.
a. Your App Content (Tasks, Notes, Categories)
The content you create in Smart Tasks — including tasks, notes, due dates, reminders, and categories — is stored locally on your device. We do not intentionally collect or access this content. If you enable iCloud Sync, this content is also stored in your personal iCloud account managed by Apple (see iCloud section below).
b. Crash Reports (via Firebase Crashlytics)
When Smart Tasks crashes, Firebase Crashlytics automatically collects diagnostic information to help us identify and fix bugs, including: device model and hardware specifications, operating system version, app version and build number, stack traces and application state at the time of crash, available RAM and disk space, and a randomly generated Installation UUID scoped to your app installation. This data is not linked to your name or Apple ID. Crash data is retained by Google for a limited period in accordance with their current policies.
c. Analytics Data (via Google Analytics for Firebase)
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how Smart Tasks is used so we can improve the experience. This service collects: a randomly generated Firebase App Instance ID (per app install), Identifier for Vendors (IDFV — a device identifier scoped to our developer account), app open and session events, screen views, in-app purchase events (subscription tier only, not linked to your payment method or Apple ID), and device model, OS version, language, and country (derived from IP address; IP addresses are not retained by Google). Your tasks are not shared with Firebase. Analytics data is retained by Google for a limited period in accordance with their current policies. You may limit analytics data collection by going to Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking on your iOS device to restrict Smart Tasks' access to advertising identifiers. To request deletion of Firebase Analytics data, use Google's privacy controls directly.
d. Advertising Identifier (IDFA)
Smart Tasks may request permission to access your device's Advertising Identifier (IDFA) via Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. If you deny this permission, we will not collect your IDFA and analytics will rely solely on non-tracking identifiers. You can change this permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
e. Push Notifications
If you grant permission for notifications, Smart Tasks uses Apple's Push Notification service (APNs) to deliver task reminders and alerts. Apple assigns your device a push notification token used solely to route notifications to your device. We do not store push tokens on our own servers, use them for advertising, or share them with third parties beyond Apple's APNs infrastructure. You can disable notifications at any time in Settings → Notifications → Smart Tasks.
f. Future Optional Features
Smart Tasks may in the future offer additional optional features that involve the collection or processing of data beyond what is described above. Any such features will be optional, and this policy will be updated accordingly.
If you enable iCloud Sync, Smart Tasks uses Apple's CloudKit framework to sync your tasks, categories, and settings across your Apple devices via iCloud. Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account, which is owned and managed by Apple. We cannot access, view, or recover your iCloud data. Apple's data practices for iCloud are described in Apple's Privacy Policy. You can disable iCloud Sync at any time in Options → iCloud within Smart Tasks.
The Smart Tasks Apple Watch app displays data from your Smart Tasks database stored on your iPhone and/or iCloud. The Apple Watch app does not independently collect or transmit data.
We do not sell your personal data. We share data with the following third parties solely for the purposes described:
We retain data only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy:
We do not store your personal data on our own servers.
Smart Tasks is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used Smart Tasks, contact us at support@smarttasksapp.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete it, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because Smart Tasks does not collect personal data directly — crash and analytics data is pseudonymous and held by Google — most data requests should be directed to Google via Google's privacy controls. You may also contact us at support@smarttasksapp.com.
We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing or advertising purposes.
Smart Tasks is operated from the United States. If you are accessing Smart Tasks from outside the United States, crash and analytics data may be transferred to and processed in the United States by Google LLC. Google LLC participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and provides appropriate safeguards for cross-border data transfers. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of Smart Tasks after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
